Uncharted Territory, LLC is an independent film production company co-founded in 1999 by Oscar-winning Visual Effects Supervisor Volker Engel and Emmy-award winning Visual Effects Producer and Supervisor Marc Weigert. Uncharted Territory develops, produces and co-produces feature films, TV movies and mini-series in the action/adventure and sci-fi genres. The most unique characteristic about UT's productions is the setup of an in-house visual effects facility for every project. Instead of dealing with the overhead of a constantly running facility, UT creates a vfx studio during pre-production of each film, which is tailored to the needs of each project. Within a time frame of usually only a few weeks, the complete hardware and software setup and a team of 30-40 artists is assembled for each project, and dissolved again after the finishing of post production. Since then it has been used on many feature films including "Stuart Little", "Alien: Resurrection", "Flubber", "Volcano", "Godzilla", "Wing Commander", "Monkeybone", "Bless the Child", and "X-Men", as well as on TV movies and series, and has since been purchased by Creative Planet.
